Buying a Home Start to Finish in 7 Steps

  1. Determine your budget and get pre-approved for a mortgage: Before you start looking for a home, it's important to figure out how much you can afford. This will help you narrow down your search to homes that are within your budget and not waste your time and energy only to be disappointed. Getting pre-approved from the get go will help you make a more informed decision when buying a home.

  2. Find a real estate agent: A real estate agent can help you find homes that meet your specific needs and preferences. They can also assist you in navigating the home buying process and answer any questions you may have. Let's be real, you need to talk to the guy writing this, Kyle Sheerin.

  3. Look for homes: Once you have a good idea of what you're looking for, you can start looking at homes that are for sale. You can do this by browsing online listings, attending open houses, and once you're ready to go, we will begin scheduling private showings.

  4. Make an offer: Once you've found a home you like, you'll need to make an offer to the seller. Your real estate agent can help you prepare an offer and negotiate the terms of the sale.

  5. Get a home inspection: Before you finalize the purchase, it's important to have a home inspector check the property for any potential issues. This will give you a better idea of the condition of the home and help you make an informed decision about whether to go through with the purchase. It's not 2022 anymore, get a home inspection! When needed call our trusted inspector Jim Comrie with Searchlight Inspections 616.791.1788.

  6. All The “Boring” Stuff: From the time you accept inspections and decide to see it through, it’s roughly 3 weeks before the sale is ready to close. During this time we have the appraisal and plenty of communication between your agent, lender, title company, and more.

  7. Close the sale and move in: Once all the details have been ironed out and you have the lender's final approval, you will be able to close the sale. Now's the time to bring the checkbook. After the sale has been closed, you can move into your new home!

Keep in mind that the process of buying a home can be complex and time-consuming, and that it is important to work with professionals such as Kyle Sheerin and REPUTABLE mortgage lenders to guide you through the process.
